How to Use Japanese Pottery
1. Porcelain
(1) Coloured overglaze decoration(Iroe) and gold decoration (Kinsai) may lose their colour if not washed carefully We recommend washing with a soft sponge.
(2) Please refrain from using products with gold decoration (Kinsai) in a microwave oven.
(3) Although most porcelain products are dishwasher safe, the glaze may fade and become cloudy. We thus recommend washing these products by hand using a soft sponge and a mild detergent.
2. Earthenware
2-1 Before using earthenware
(1) Ordinary earthenware: Place the product in a pot and boil for around 30 minutes before using for the first time.
(2) Coarse earthenware 1: Gaps in the soil in coarse earthenware can be filled in by boiling the pot in rice-washing water.
(3) Coarse earthenware 2: For soft soil, soak it in water without boiling.
2-2. Other
(1) Table scratches caused by the product base
Before use, check the base of the products. To prevent scratches on the table, we recommend placing on a cloth or table mat, or lightly sanding the base with sandpaper.
(2) Discolouration / Water Leakage
Earthenware has high water absorption. Water leakage and colour change may occur, especially in unglazed earthenware and powder-sprayed products, due to the absorption of moisture, oil, and other elements.
(3) Oil stains
Placing food with oil content on earthenware may cause staining. We recommend soaking the earthenware in water before serving food on it.
(4) Microwave
Not suitable for microwave
(5) How to wash
Washing porcelain and earthenware together may result in scratches or chips due to differences in the strength of each product. We recommend handwashing separately.
